Properties
Activated carbon should have pore sizes that are larger in size than the substance it is trying to remove. The removed molecules are adsorbed into activated carbon’s internal pore structure by Van der Waals Forces.
Conclusion: VOCs is mainly composed of meso molecules, CTC activity should be a more proper specification to judge the adsorption performance.
Honeycomb activated carbon has relatively large contact area, developed microporous structure and high adsorption capacity, the biggest characteristic of it is small wind resistance.

CTC is Carbon Tetrachloride Activity, one of the important specifications of activated carbon. Carbon tetrachloride activity is a measure of the pore volume of activated carbon. It is usually used to express the adsorption capacity of activated carbon for organic gas VOCs. It is the most important index to evaluate the gas-phase adsorption capacity.
*In some regions, the Carbon Tetrachloride Activity has been replaced by the Butane Activity test due to the ban on carbon tetrachloride. CCL4 activity = 2.55 x the Butane Activity.
It is not from our calculation or prediction, it comes from our customers’ actual feedback. At present, we have supplied a lot of projects which with on-line monitoring equipment. We can calculate the adsoption rate from these known data: air volume, exhaust gas concentration, working time, consumption of activated carbon, and etc.
It’s based on the air volume, exhaust gas concentration, the activated carbon quality and project cost. It’s well known that using higher quality activated carbon, use less quantity of it. At the same time, it can save the hazardous waste treatment cost.
We usually suggest that air volume 10,000m³/h should use about 1.5-2.0m³honeycomb activated carbon; exhaust gas concentration with 100-300mg should use about 1m³ honeycomb activated carbon, concentration above 500mg should use 1.5m³honeycomb activated carbon.
It’s based on the exhaust gas concentration, detailed correct technologies, such as wind speed, consumption of honeycomb activated carbon. For example, if to handle air volume 50,000m³/h, using 12-15m³ honeycomb activated carbon, working time is about 8-10h/day. Together with the on-line monitoring equipment data, we suggest the desorption period is every 5-7 days.

Activated carbon is a normal, safe and effective adsorbent which widely used in many industries. Our honeycomb activated carbon has developed macropore, mesopore and micropore, can adsorb most of unwanted impurities but not for all. According to the conclusions drawn by our engineers through repeated experiments, activated carbon can efficiently adsorb substance with polarity under 4 by physical adsorption method.
